During the annual CHOC Follies, community members gather to sing and dance in support of CHOC's mission to advance children’s health. This year’s show will raise awareness for CHOC's mental health initiative, a full continuum of care for children and families facing mental health challenges. Honoring Gloria Zigner
When Gloria Zigner landed in Orange County more than a half-century ago, she was a pioneer. And she became a legend, fondly known as the “PR Queen of O.C.” In that role, she helped boost visibility for countless businesses and gained trust and respect because of what one friend remembers was a “loving-arms-around-you” approach. That also fueled her desire to give back to the community in meaningful ways—including developing the original vision for CHOC Follies, which she guided to become a rallying point for Orange County philanthropists, helping children be assured of receiving the best health care and treatment. Among the many honors bestowed upon her, perhaps the 2015 Charley Award for Outstanding Volunteer received from CHOC meant the most and was closest to her heart.
Gloria’s dream was to produce 25 CHOC Follies shows. But due to health issues, she stepped down in 2017 as the executive producer. What she created endures, and her legacy continues—bringing us to this year, as we celebrate the 25th CHOC Follies show. We were saddened when Gloria passed away on October 28, 2023, but she will always be remembered and has a special place in the hearts of our Follies crew of directors and cast members. We feel her presence strongly today and her smile is as big as the universe for what, together, we have accomplished.
