Kids’ mental health is just as important as their physical health. Research shows that up to 1 in 5 children has a diagnosable mental health condition and the COVID-19 pandemic only increased that number.

Click here to access online resource guides that cover a range of mental health topics, with tips for parents, tips for kids and teens, recommended reading and viewing, and crisis resources put together by the pediatric mental health experts at CHOC. These resources are not meant to replace your child’s professional mental healthcare but rather supplement it by giving you helpful tips and tools all in one place.

DONORS HELP MAKE THE DIFFERENCE AT CHOC
The pediatric health system has piloted programs thanks to donor support – but as CHOC further distinguishes itself as a national leader in treating every stage of a child’s mental health journey, more support is needed to expand our services. Philanthropy continues to make the difference for children and their families struggling with mental health.

25,151 MENTAL HEALTH PATIENTS SERVED
in the past five years. This includes children and teens in CHOC’s outpatient services, Cherese Mari Laulhere Mental Health Inpatient Center, eating disorders stabilization program, medical inpatient psychology and psychiatry consults and the Julia and George Argyros Emergency Department. Philanthropy helps CHOC meet the increased number of pediatric mental health cases and rise to the challenge of growing demands.

LIFE-SAVING SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
that provide uninsured families with treatment from our Intensive Outpatient Program, allowing them to receive focused therapy. State-funded insurance typically covers just 15 cents for every dollar of mental health care provided. Our donors play a vital part in relieving financial barriers, giving families access to care.

ART & MUSIC STUDIOS
incorporated in the Cherese Mari Laulhere Mental Health Inpatient Center, giving patients opportunities to express themselves through art and music therapy. Everything in the programs—activities, supplies, board-certified therapists—is solely supported through giving.

RESIDENT DOGS
Odessa is CHOC’s newest resident therapy dog—and one of the first in the nation dedicated to a pediatric inpatient mental health center. Supported solely through philanthropy, Odessa brings comfort and joy exclusively to our mental health patients.
